Characteristics of an Old Japanese House
This property is an old house, nearly 60 years old, that was vacant for 8 years and renovated by 150 people through DIY. Please only stay if you can tolerate the following points.
Cold
All rooms have air conditioning, but it can be cold, especially in winter.
- Please use the heating throughout the house (the living room air conditioner can be left on overnight).
- There is a kotatsu and a heater in the living room, and a heater in the kitchen.
- If there are no other guests, you may move the heaters freely (please return them to their original location after use).
Insects
Since the old house is adjacent to the backyard, insects may appear. Please use the insect repellent available at the entrance.
Noise
As it is an old house along a prefectural road, windows may rattle when cars pass by. This is slightly alleviated in the 2nd-floor rooms.
About the Kitchen
- Please always use the ventilation fan when using the kitchen.
- Coffee / Tea: Not available
- Rice cooker available (rice is not provided; please bring your own if needed).
- Refrigerator/freezer available (post-it notes and pens are on the door. Please label your belongings with 'room of stay / period of stay'. Items left for more than one week will be discarded).
Waste Separation
Trash cans are in the 1F kitchen.
- Burnable waste
- Plastic containers and packaging
- Bottles, cans, plastic bottles (after washing)
- Food waste: Into the food waste bin under the sink (Hayama Town collects food waste separately from burnable waste).
When the trash cans are full, please take them out to the outdoor storage box. Trash bags are under the kitchen sink.
Washing Machine
- Washing machine / Dryer: Available (drum type)
- Detergent: Automatically dispensed
- If detergent runs low, please refill from the shelf above.
- Do not put sandy items in the dryer (may cause malfunction).
Upon check-out, it would be helpful if you could wash and dry the linens if possible (it would be greatly appreciated if you could also put them back into their storage bags).
Toilets
- There are two toilets: one near the 1F veranda and one near the shower booth, accessible through the 1F kitchen.
- We ask that men also use the toilet while seated.
- Cleaning supplies are behind the toilet.
