Characteristics of an Old Japanese House
This property is an old house, nearly 60 years old, that was vacant for 8 years and DIY-renovated by 150 people. Please only stay if you can tolerate the following points.
Cold
Although all rooms have air conditioning, it can be cold, especially in winter.
- Please use the heating throughout the entire building (the living room air conditioner can be left on overnight).
- There is a kotatsu and a heater in the living room, and a heater in the kitchen.
- If there are no other guests, you may move the heaters freely (please return them to their original positions after use).
Insects
As the old house is adjacent to the backyard, insects may appear. Insect repellent is available at the entrance, please use it.
Noise
As it is an old house along a prefectural road, the windows may rattle when cars pass by. This is slightly alleviated in the 2F rooms.
About the Kitchen
- Please always use the ventilation fan when using the kitchen.
- Coffee/Tea: Not available
- Rice cooker available (no rice; please bring your own if needed)
- Refrigerator/freezer available (post-its and pens are on the door. Please label your belongings with "staying room and stay period." Items left for more than one week will be discarded.)
Trash Separation
Trash cans are in the 1F kitchen.
- Burnable trash
- Container and packaging plastics
- Bottles, cans, and plastic bottles (after washing)
- Food waste: Into the food waste bin under the sink (Hayama Town collects food waste separately from burnable trash)
When the trash cans are full, please take them out to the outdoor storage box. Trash bags are under the kitchen sink.
Washing Machine
- Washing machine/dryer: Available (drum type)
- Detergent: Automatic dispenser
- If detergent runs low, please refill from the shelf above.
- Please do not put sandy items into the dryer (may cause malfunction).
Upon check-out, it would be greatly appreciated if you could wash and dry the linens if possible (and even more so if you could put them back into their storage bags).

- There are two toilets: one near the 1F veranda and one near the shower booth past the 1F kitchen.
- Gentlemen are also requested to use the toilet while seated.
- Cleaning supplies are behind the toilet.
