⛩️ Morito Daimyojin Annual Grand Festival (Hamamawari)
Morito Shrine・Morito Beach (Horiuchi, Hayama-machi) / Within Hayama-machi. About 10 minutes walk to car from various facilities in town.
This is the annual grand festival of Morito Daimyojin, said to have been founded by Minamoto no Yoritomo. It's the most exciting two days in Hayama.
The highlight is the mikoshi (portable shrines). Mikoshi from all over town gather at Morito Beach, andthe 'Hamamawari' (entering the sea while carrying the mikoshi)takes place (the exact day, whether on the eve or main festival, is unconfirmed due to conflicting information in sources). It's a unique sight for a seaside town, worth coming just to see.
The beach will be crowded. Wear shoes that can get wet.

The 7th (Mon) is the eve festival, and the 8th (Tue) is the main festival. Confirmed on Hayama Machizukuri Kyokai's town festival list (2026-07-31). Official website (moritojinja.jp/contents/gyouji.html) also confirms eve festival = 7th, main festival = 8th (2026-07-31 fresh-eyes audit). However, the official site does not specify which day the 'Hamamawari' occurs (sources describe both eve festival procession and main festival entering the sea — remains unconfirmed).
