Miyagi Prefecture has two nationally famous hot spring resorts: Akiu Onsen and Naruko Onsen.
Located in a hot spring resort surrounded by abundant nature, it is one of Miyagi Prefecture's leading tourist destinations.
Aside from those hot springs that include overnight stays, there are also many people who want to go to a hot spring for a day trip to relieve the fatigue of everyday life.
Therefore, this time, we will introduce day-trip hot spring and bathing facilities in Miyagi Prefecture, particularly in the coastal area from Tagajo City to Kesennuma City.
There are plenty of easily accessible day-trip hot spring and sauna facilities throughout the area, so whether you're visiting as a tourist or living in Miyagi Prefecture, be sure to check them out.
Genki no Yu Natural Hot Spring, located in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, is a popular hot spring facility among locals and is bustling with many people on both weekdays and weekends.
Its distinguishing feature is the wide variety of baths available, including a large public bath, open-air bath, reclining bath, carbonated spring bath, and a total of 17 different types of baths, as well as a sauna.
Since the water temperature and effects vary from bath to bath, finding your own routine is one way to enjoy it.
This hot spring facility is especially popular with people coming home from work, as it is open until 11:00 PM.
Address: 1-6-29 Ookaido Kita, Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture 986-0854 Opening Hours: 9:00 AM - 11:00 PM Price: 1000 yen for adults Closed: None Facilities: Indoor bath, open-air bath, sauna Access: Approximately 10 minutes by car from JR Ishinomaki Station Parking: Available Official Website:https://genkinoyu.com/
About a 20-minute drive from JR Ishinomaki Station, you'll find a roadside station called "Jōbon no Sato," which has a hot spring facility called "Futago no Yu" inside.
This is the only iron-containing chloride spring in Miyagi Prefecture. Its abundant iron and salt content warms the body thoroughly, and the warmth lasts even after you get out of the bath.
There are separate bathtubs made of cypress wood and stone, and men and women can enjoy both, with the baths alternating daily.
Both baths have a calming atmosphere, so I highly recommend "Futago no Yu" for anyone who wants to relax and take a break during a drive.
Address: 1-1-1 Futagokita-shita, Kobunagoshi, Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture 986-0132 Opening Hours: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Price: 650 yen Closed: None Facilities: Indoor bath, sauna Access: Approximately 20 minutes by car from JR Ishinomaki Station Parking: Available Official Website:https://joubon.com/spa/

Driving another 30 minutes or so into the mountains from Futago-no-Yu, you'll find a secluded hot spring called "Oiwake Onsen" at the end of a narrow mountain road.
This hot spring inn boasts a history of over 80 years (as of 2023), and its retro atmosphere makes you feel like you've traveled back in time.
The owner, a true hot spring enthusiast, insisted on using a 500-year-old kaya tree for the bathtub, allowing you to literally "immerse" yourself in the good old Japanese hot spring culture.
Day trips for bathing are possible, but we recommend staying overnight. The kaiseki cuisine featuring Ishinomaki's fresh seafood, combined with the hot springs, is simply "luxurious."

If you exit the ticket gate at Onagawa Station and enter the building you see, you'll find a hot spring facility called "Onagawa Onsen Yupoppo."
Onagawa Onsen has hot spring sommeliers (people who are well-versed in hot spring knowledge and can provide appropriate information on proper bathing methods), and the distinctive feature of Onagawa Onsen Yupoppo is its carefully selected hypotonic alkaline hot spring with a pH of 8.8.
It softens the stratum corneum of the skin and removes dirt and excess dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth and supple. It also provides moisturizing and warming effects even after bathing.
When you leave the hot springs and go up to the observation deck, you can see the roadside station and Onagawa Bay on one side and the JR railway tracks on the other, and this view is one of the charms of "Onagawa Onsen Yupoppo".

Minamisanriku Hotel Kanyo, a representative hotel in Minamisanriku town, also accepts day-trip bathers.
This hotel faces the Pacific Ocean, and both men's and women's open-air baths offer expansive ocean views of the Pacific Ocean.
Both men and women can use the baths on the second and fourth floors of the hotel, and the sauna also offers ocean views, allowing you to relax with a feeling of openness, much like the vast Pacific Ocean.
Residents of Minamisanriku Town can enter for half price, so if you're a resident and haven't been there yet, please take this article as an opportunity to go and check it out.

Hokkori-yu, a hot spring in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture, which sadly closed in 2019, has been revived as an artificial hot spring.
Located close to a highway interchange, this hot spring facility is easily accessible by car, making it a convenient place to stop by for a relaxing soak.
The hot spring water uses a natural mineral called "Komeiseki," which has been approved as a quasi-drug by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. The water quality is said to be effective for cold sensitivity, stiff shoulders, lower back pain, and rheumatism.
The spacious outdoor relaxation area allows you to fully relax and "rejuvenate" after your sauna session without worrying about your surroundings.

"Irodori no Oka" is a multi-purpose facility operated by a medical corporation in Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture since 2021. It offers a variety of services beyond medical care, including restaurants and cafes, baths and bedrock baths, accommodations, clinics and nursing care facilities, providing enjoyment for everyone.
In addition to the baths, there is also a bedrock bath, which is open to both overnight guests and day visitors.
After warming up in the bath or hot stone sauna, you can relax in the rest area or chat with friends over drinks and sweets at the cafe.
Located within walking distance of JR Tōmei Station, it's easily accessible even for those without a car.

The Okumatsushima Lane Hotel in Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture, overlooking Matsushima Bay, also has a hot spring where you can enjoy a day trip bath.
The main source of the spring water is "Yakuseki Komeiseki," which is considered to have the strongest ionization effect among naturally occurring minerals, and it is rich in water-soluble mineral components.
As a result, your skin will become smooth, and it will also be effective against neuralgia, rheumatism, stiff shoulders, and lower back pain.
Furthermore, the guest rooms, which offer a sense of oneness with nature, are magnificent, making this a hotel I would definitely recommend for overnight stays.

If you drive inland for about 30 minutes from Ishinomaki City or Higashimatsushima City, you can reach Wakuya Town, where there is a hot spring called "Wakuya Tenpyo no Yu".
Its distinguishing features are the two types of spring water: "hypotonic alkaline" and "sodium chloride sulfate spring/hypotonic neutral spring," and it has become a hot topic as a "beauty-enhancing, skin-beautifying spring."
There are two large public baths with different atmospheres: one Western-style and the other Japanese-style. Each bath has its own unique design, making bath time a truly enjoyable experience.
Furthermore, you can access a tourist map of Wakuya Town from their official website, making it a user-friendly hot spring resort even for first-time visitors to Wakuya Town.

Located in Matsushima Town, Miyagi Prefecture, famous for Matsushima, one of Japan's three most scenic spots, Basho no Yu is appealing because it is a natural hot spring that gushes forth naturally.
Because it contains a high amount of the natural moisturizing ingredient "metasilicic acid" (93 mg/ℓ or more) and the warming ingredient "bicarbonate ions" (53.5 mg/ℓ or more), it provides gentle moisture and a relaxing effect on the skin.
Furthermore, the bathhouse mural, painted by public bathhouse artist Mizuki Tanaka, depicts Matsushima Bay, and this "Matsushima" mural, which can only be seen at Basho-yu, is a must-see.
The restaurant also has a wide variety of menu options, making it a hot spring facility you can visit again and again without getting bored.
Address: 32-1 Ishidazawa, Matsushima, Matsushima-machi, Miyagi-gun, Miyagi Prefecture 981-0213 Opening Hours: 10:00 - 20:00 Price: 650 yen (750 yen on Saturdays and Sundays) Closed: Thursdays Facilities: Indoor bath Access: Approximately 5 minutes by car from Matsushima Kaigan Interchange Parking: Available Official Website:https://basyonoyu.jp/
Gokurakuyu, which operates throughout Japan under the slogan "Japan's No. 1 bathhouse chain," has three locations in Miyagi Prefecture, including "Super Sento Gokurakuyu Tagajo Store" in the coastal area.
The variety of baths, including open-air baths, jet baths, electric baths, and far-infrared saunas, is truly impressive, as expected from a nationwide chain.
With amenities such as rest areas, restaurants, and relaxation facilities in addition to the baths, you won't get bored even if you stay for a long time.
Since it's open until midnight, it's perfect for unwinding after a long day at work.
Address: 1-2-5 Machimae, Tagajo City, Miyagi Prefecture 985-0845 Opening Hours: 8:00 AM - 12:00 AM Price: 700 yen (750 yen on weekends) Closed: None Facilities: Indoor bath, open-air bath, sauna Access: Approximately 5 minutes by car from Sendai Port North Interchange Parking: Available Official Website:http://tagajo.gokurakuyu.jp/
