The waters off Kinkasan, in particular, are a tidal current where the Kuroshio (warm current) and Oyashio (cold current) meet, making it one of the world's three major fishing grounds. The area around Roopt Higashi-Matsushima Shintome offers a wide variety of restaurants, from those serving abundant seafood to newly opened stylish cafes, making it a great place to enjoy gourmet food. In this column, we will introduce 8 restaurants around Tome Station, Nobiru Station, and the Roopt Higashi-Matsushima share house base.
'Irodori no Oka' is located about a 3-minute walk from Tome Station on the JR Senseki Line. Opened in May 2021, this facility has a building that feels open with large glass windows and the warmth of wood, making it exciting to look at from the outside.
'Irodori no Oka' is a complex facility established by a medical corporation, housing a clinic, hot springs, and a hotel. It's a place where you can enjoy various activities, and one of them is dining in the cafe space.
The lunch menu includes lunch plates, hamburgers, and beef tongue stew. There are also delightful coffees and desserts for after your meal, so you're sure to satisfy your hunger no matter when you visit. Since it's within walking distance from Roopt Higashi-Matsushima Shintome, you might find yourselves saying, "What should we eat?" "Maybe Irodori no Oka?"

This is 'Cafe Angateaux,' a cafe within walking distance from Nobiru Station, one stop from Tome Station. It's located in a residential area and is open only on weekends, using a part of the owner's home.
Inside the cafe, art pieces chosen by the art-loving owner are displayed everywhere. There are also watercolors painted by the owner themselves. Spending a relaxing tea time while admiring wonderful art is truly special.
What's wonderful about this cafe isn't just the atmosphere and menu, but also the owner themselves. They are very friendly, so please do have a chat when you take a break at 'Cafe Angateaux.'

Okumatsushima Clubhouse is a luxurious space consisting of two restaurants, a garden, and this cafe space, 'Nobiru no Chaya.' You'll see it as you drive along the Okumatsushima Park Line, a scenic route extending from Prefectural Road 27.
The highlight of 'Nobiru no Chaya' is their "super-aged pot-roasted sweet potatoes," carefully roasted in-house in special pots. You can enjoy these super-aged pot-roasted sweet potatoes in various forms, including pot-roasted sweet potatoes, frozen pot-roasted sweet potatoes, and pot-roasted sweet potato lattes.
You can dine inside the Okumatsushima Clubhouse, or purchase items from the counter behind the store for takeout. Feel free to drop by when you're craving something sweet.

This is 'Soba-dokoro Okumatsuan,' a soba restaurant located within the Okumatsushima Clubhouse. When entering the dining area, you can choose between 'Soba-dokoro Okumatsuan' or 'Sumibiyaki Umi,' and this time we chose the former.
The interior is a luxurious space, true to the concept of the Okumatsushima Clubhouse, and just looking at the restaurant makes you feel a little glamorous.
'Soba-dokoro Okumatsuan' offers dishes made with local ingredients. The "Nori Soba" and "Oyster Fry" we ordered this time were both from Higashi-Matsushima. The black soba noodles, generously kneaded with Higashi-Matsushima nori seaweed, are exquisite, so please give them a try.

'Mori no KITCHEN' is a restaurant located within KIBOTCHA, a complex facility that utilizes a former school. At lunchtime, the restaurant is bustling with families.
They offer a menu loved by all generations, including set meals, curries, and ramen. There are also seafood dishes that you shouldn't miss when you come to Miyagi. At 'Mori no KITCHEN,' a free drink bar comes with your food order, which is great for both kids and adults. Plus, with Wi-Fi available, you might find yourself staying longer than planned.
It's available for lunch and cafe time, and also operates until 9:00 PM, serving alcohol. Enjoying a drink with your dinner is a nice way to spend the evening.

As soon as you arrive at Kameoka Base, an outdoor hub in Okumatsushima, you'll see the words "California Shokudo." You can enjoy a stylish lunch at 'California Shokudo No. 2,' a cafe located within Kameoka Base.
They offer a cafe-like menu that matches the atmosphere of the interior, including pasta and curry. This time, I ordered pasta. The pasta, made with carefully selected noodles, is delightfully chewy. There's also a wide selection of post-meal drinks, including some unique mixed drinks sealed in cans.
'California Shokudo No. 2' also operates as a bar on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. If you're in the mood for a drink, be sure to stop by.
Here's a secret shortcut to the share house. If you walk a little west from Kameoka Base, there's a tunnel (pedestrian path) that leads to the Shintome area, and you can walk back to Roopt Higashi-Matsushima Shintome in about 15 minutes. It's great to be able to return without needing a designated driver after enjoying some drinks.

The closest restaurant to Roopt Higashi-Matsushima Shintome is 'Ramen Kaede'.
Located in a residential area, it has a stylish exterior that doesn't immediately look like a ramen shop.
Inside, teacups line an entire wall, creating an atmosphere much like a coffee shop.
You might wonder, "Is this really a ramen shop?" but you can definitely feel the lively energy unique to a ramen shop, and that contrast is part of its charm.
The recommended "Kaede Ramen" is a soy sauce ramen with a seafood broth, and its rich flavor is addictive.
It's a popular local spot where families queue up on weekends.
If you're craving ramen, be sure to visit 'Ramen Kaede' early.

Finally, we introduce 'Enmantei,' a ramen shop near Okumatsushima Sports Park.
It's a ramen shop that many celebrities have visited, with numerous autographs displayed inside.
'Enmantei' uses plenty of seafood in its ramen.
The "Seaweed Ramen" I ordered this time was literally topped with plenty of nori seaweed and funori (gloiopeltis furcata) in the soup.
The main highlight is the "Seafood Ramen," topped with a whole horsehair crab.
There are so many unique ramen dishes here that you'll want to visit again and again once you've been.
