The Sanriku-Matsushima area of Tohoku is famous for its abundant seafood, including wakame seaweed, oysters, and mackerel. In particular, the waters off Kinkasan are where the Kuroshio Current (warm current) and the Oyashio Current (cold current) meet, making it one of the world's three major fishing grounds. The area around Roopt Higashimatsushima Shin-Tomei boasts a wide variety of restaurants, from those using abundant seafood to newly opened, stylish cafes, making it a great place to enjoy gourmet food. In this column, we will introduce eight restaurants around Tomei Station, Nobiru Station, and the Roopt Higashimatsushima share house.

Located just a 3-minute walk from JR Senseki Line's Tōmei Station, "Irodori no Oka" is a facility that opened in May 2021. With its large glass windows creating a sense of openness and the warmth of wood, it's exciting just to look at it from the outside.
"Irodori no Oka" is a complex established by a medical corporation, housing a clinic, hot springs, a hotel, and more. It's a place where you can enjoy various activities, one of which is the cafe space where you can enjoy food and drinks.

The lunch menu includes lunch plates, hamburgers, beef tongue stew, and more. With coffee and desserts available after your meal, you're sure to find something to satisfy your appetite no matter what time you go. Roopt Higashimatsushima is within walking distance of the Shin-Tomei Expressway, so you might find yourself saying things like, "What should we eat?" "Let's go to Irodori no Oka for now."

Location: 2-25-2 Nobirugaoka, Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture 981-0416

This is Cafe Angateau, a coffee shop within walking distance of Nobiru Station, just one stop from Tōmei Station. Located in a residential area, it is open only on weekends, using a part of the owner's home.
The shop is decorated with art pieces selected by the art-loving owner. There are even watercolors painted by the owner himself. Enjoying tea time while admiring the beautiful art is a truly special experience.

What's wonderful about this cafe isn't just the atmosphere and menu, but also the owner himself. He's a very friendly person, so be sure to chat with him when you stop by Cafe Angateau for a break.
1-3-1 Nobirugaoka, Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture 981-0416

The Okumatsushima Clubhouse is a luxurious space comprised of two restaurants, a garden, and this cafe space, "Nobiru no Chaya." It comes into view when you drive along the Okumatsushima Park Line, a scenic route that extends from Prefectural Road 27.
Nobiru no Chaya's top recommendation is their "Super Aged Pot-Roasted Sweet Potato," which is carefully roasted in-house using a special pot. You can enjoy this super aged pot-roasted sweet potato in various forms, including plain pot-roasted sweet potato, frozen pot-roasted sweet potato, and pot-roasted sweet potato latte.

You can dine in at the Okumatsushima Clubhouse, or purchase items at the counter behind the shop for takeout. Feel free to drop by whenever you're craving something sweet.
Location: 72-6 Kitayokkei, Nobiru, Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture 981-0411

This is "Soba-dokoro Okumatsuan," a soba noodle restaurant located inside the Okumatsushima Clubhouse. When entering a restaurant, you can choose between "Soba-dokoro Okumatsuan" and "Sumibiyaki Umi," but this time we decided to go to the former.

The interior of the shop is a luxurious space that lives up to the concept of the Okumatsushima Clubhouse, and just looking at the shop makes you feel a little bit gorgeous.
Okumatsuan Soba Restaurant offers a menu that focuses on local ingredients. The "Nori Soba" and "Fried Oysters" that I ordered this time were both from Higashimatsushima. The dark soba noodles, made with plenty of Higashimatsushima seaweed, are exquisite, so be sure to try them.
Location: 18-6 Kitayokkei, Nobiru, Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture 981-0411

"Mori no KITCHEN" is a restaurant located within KIBOTCHA, a complex facility that utilizes a former school building. During lunchtime, the restaurant is bustling with families.
They offer a variety of dishes that appeal to all generations, including set meals, curry, and ramen. They also have seafood dishes that you shouldn't miss when you visit Miyagi. At "Mori no KITCHEN," a free drink bar is included with any food order, which is great for both kids and adults. Plus, they have Wi-Fi, so you might find yourself wanting to linger!

In addition to being a great place for lunch or coffee breaks, we're open until 9 PM and also serve alcohol. Enjoying a drink with your dinner sounds like a wonderful way to spend your time here.

As soon as you arrive at Kameoka Base, an outdoor base in Okumatsushima, you'll see the sign for "California Shokudo." You can enjoy a stylish lunch at California Shokudo No. 2, a cafe located inside Kameoka Base.

They offer a variety of cafe-style dishes, such as pasta and curry, that fit the atmosphere of the shop. This time, I ordered pasta. The pasta, made with carefully selected noodles, has a wonderfully chewy texture. They also have a wide selection of after-meal drinks, including some mixed using an unusual method of sealing the cans.

California Shokudo No. 2 also operates as a bar from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. If you're in the mood for a drink, be sure to stop by.
Here's a secret shortcut to the share house. If you walk a little west from Kameoka Base, you'll find a tunnel (pedestrian walkway) that leads to the Shin-Tomei Expressway area, and you can get back to Roopt Higashi-Matsushima Shin-Tomei in about 15 minutes on foot. It's nice to be able to get home without having to call a designated driver after enjoying some drinks.
Location: 34-3 Nobiru Kameoka, Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture 981-0411

The closest restaurant to Roopr Higashimatsushima Shin-Tomei is "Ramen Kaede".
Located in a residential area, this restaurant has a stylish exterior that doesn't immediately suggest it's a ramen shop.

The interior of the shop is lined with teacups on every wall, giving it the atmosphere of a coffee shop.
You might think, "Is this really a ramen shop?", but you can definitely feel the passion that comes with a ramen shop, and that contrast is one of its charms.
My top recommendation, "Kaede Ramen," is a soy sauce-based ramen with a seafood broth, and its rich flavor is addictive.

This is a popular local restaurant where families line up on weekends.
If you're craving ramen, be sure to visit "Ramen Kaede" early in the day.
Location: 3-5 Shin-Tomei, Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture 981-0413

The last place I'd like to introduce is Enman-tei, a ramen shop located near Okumatsushima Sports Park.
This ramen shop is frequented by many celebrities, and the interior is decorated with numerous signed autographs.

At Enman-tei, we use plenty of seafood in our ramen.
The "seaweed ramen" I ordered this time was literally topped with nori and funori (a type of seaweed) filling the soup.
The main attraction is the "Seafood Ramen," which comes topped with a whole hairy crab.
There are so many unique ramen dishes that you can only taste here, so once you go, you'll want to come back again and again.
Location: 42-2 Kitaakasaki, Nobiru, Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture 981-0411
This time, we introduced cafes and restaurants in the Shin-Tomei area and the Nobiru area.
There are also restaurants that use plenty of local ingredients, so I'm sure even foodies will be pleased.
Furthermore, with a wide variety of restaurants and bars available, you'll never get bored enjoying dining out and drinking.
If you live in the Shin-Tomei area or the Nobiru area, you can choose a shop to suit your mood at the time.
Please enjoy life in Higashimatsushima, along with the many gourmet restaurants.
