Hayama Town, Kanagawa Prefecture
Wataya Roopt Hayama Kamiyamaguchi▷ Wataya, a guesthouse nestled in the terraced rice fields. Stay in the rural landscape of Hayama and experience the local way of life.
"Wataya" is a private rental accommodation in a nearly 100-year-old traditional Japanese house located next to the terraced rice fields of Hayama-Kamiyamaguchi. The house was originally a business dealing in cotton, and the name "Wataya" has been adopted as the name of the accommodation. While retaining the traditional appearance of the house, such as the beams and fittings, it offers a relaxing stay for only one group per day. A stroll through the terraced rice fields after check-in is included in the accommodation, and you will explore the history, lifestyle, and seasonal nature of the satoyama (traditional rural landscape) with a guide.
After check-in, we will guide you on a stroll through the terraced rice fields (included in your accommodation). We will walk together to the entrance of this small rural area, learning about the history of the terraced rice fields, the way of life in this area, and the nature that changes with the seasons.
Additionally, you can book farming experiences such as rice planting and harvesting, ice cream making using rice from the terraced rice paddies, dinner plans featuring local ingredients, and breakfast in the terraced rice fields. Booking a package deal will allow you to fully enjoy the charm of the region.
*All experience and meal plans require advance reservations at least 4 days prior to your stay. For details, please refer to the experience page after making your reservation.
The kitchen is equipped with a rice mill and an earthenware pot. One of the unique pleasures of staying here is the experience of milling your own terraced rice and cooking it in the earthenware pot. Appliances and cooking utensils are also provided, so you can fully enjoy your meals.
There's also a garden, so you can enjoy spending time outdoors.
This property features three separate spaces: a bedroom with two single beds, a room with two daybeds converted from a closet, and a Japanese-style room (with four futons) that can be partitioned off with a roll screen.
