⛩️ Morito Daimyojin Grand Festival (Hamairi)
Morito Shrine・Morito Beach (Horiuchi, Hayama Town) / Within Hayama Town. About 10 minutes walk to car from various facilities in town.
This is the annual grand festival of Morito Daimyojin, said to have been founded by Minamoto no Yoritomo. It's the most exciting two days in Hayama.
The highlight is the mikoshi (portable shrines). Mikoshi from all over town gather at Morito Beach, andthe 'Hamairi' (entering the sea while carrying the mikoshi)takes place (the exact day, whether on the eve or main festival, is unconfirmed due to conflicting descriptions in sources). It's a unique sight for a seaside town, worth seeing just for this.
The beach will be crowded. Wear shoes that can get wet.

The eve festival is on the 7th (Mon), and the main festival is on the 8th (Tue). Confirmed on Hayama Town Planning Association's town festival list (2026-07-31). Official website (moritojinja.jp/contents/gyouji.html) also confirms eve festival = 7th, main festival = 8th (2026-07-31 fresh-eyes audit). However, it is not officially specified which day the 'Hamairi' takes place (sources describe both eve festival procession and main festival entering the sea — remains unconfirmed).
