⛩️ Morito Daimyojin Annual Grand Festival (Hamaori)
Morito Shrine / Morito Beach (Horiuchi, Hayama Town) / Within Hayama Town. Approx. 10 minutes walk to car from various facilities in town.
This is the biggest annual festival of Morito Daimyojin, said to have been founded by Minamoto no Yoritomo. It's the most exciting two days in Hayama.
The highlight is the portable shrine (mikoshi). Mikoshi from all over town gather at Morito Beach, andthe 'Hamaori' ritual, where they enter the sea while carrying the mikoshi,is performed (it is unconfirmed whether this occurs on the eve of the festival or the main festival, as descriptions vary in different sources). It's a unique sight for a town by the sea, and worth coming just to see it.
The beach will be crowded. Wear shoes that can get wet.

The eve of the festival is on the 7th (Mon), and the main festival is on the 8th (Tue). Confirmed by the Hayama Machizukuri Association's town festival list (2026-07-31). The official website (moritojinja.jp/contents/gyouji.html) also confirms the eve on the 7th and the main festival on the 8th (2026-07-31 fresh-eyes audit). However, it is not officially specified which day the "Hamaori" takes place (sources describe both the eve's procession and the main festival's sea entry - remains unconfirmed).
