The whole-house rental inn "Wataya Roopt Hayama Kamiyamaguchi," a nearly 100-year-old traditional house located near the terraced rice fields of Hayama Kamiyamaguchi, has opened.
Originally a house that dealt in cotton (wata), the trade name "Wataya" has been kept as the inn's name. While preserving traditional features like beams and fittings, guests can enjoy a relaxing stay, limited to one group per day and a maximum of 8 people.
A guided walk through the terraced rice fields after check-in is included in the stay, exploring the history, daily life, and seasonal nature of the satoyama. Additionally, you can book agricultural experiences such as rice planting and harvesting, ice cream making using terraced rice, dinner plans with local ingredients, and terraced rice field breakfast (all experience and meal plans require advance reservations at least 4 days prior to your stay).
The kitchen is equipped with a rice polisher and a clay pot, allowing guests to polish their own terraced rice and cook it in the clay pot, which is one of the unique pleasures of this inn. There is also a garden where you can enjoy time outdoors.
We highly recommend this inn for those who wish to deeply experience the satoyama lifestyle of Hayama.
