Recommended for Work or Relaxation! 8 Cafes and Coffee Shops in Ishinomaki [Part 1]

Ishinomaki is a region rich in food, with attractive restaurants and izakayas lining the city. There are just as many cafes and eateries, perfect for taking a break after a meal or working on a computer.

This time, we will introduce 8 cafes and coffee shops, focusing on the area around Ishinomaki Station. All of them are unique establishments, each offering a different way to enjoy them. We will present them in two parts, front and back, with plenty of photos, so we hope this will be helpful when choosing a cafe in Ishinomaki.

A town lobby where people, things, and events gather

IRORI Ishinomaki

The first cafe we'll introduce is 'IRORI Ishinomaki.' True to its concept, 'IRORI Ishinomaki, the most interesting town lobby in the world,' it's a place where interesting people, things, and events from Ishinomaki gather.

'IRORI Ishinomaki' is a multi-purpose facility, and various people enjoy it in different ways. Some take a break with coffee, others work on their computers as Wi-Fi is available, and some enjoy chatting with friends or staff. I often use it when I want to work on my computer.

Events are regularly held within 'IRORI Ishinomaki,' and brochures for events held in Ishinomaki, Kesennuma, Sendai, and other areas are also displayed. There's also an immigration consultation booth for Ishinomaki City and a co-working space, and works by local artists are exhibited and sold, making it a place where you feel 'there's always something at IRORI.' When you visit Ishinomaki, head straight to 'IRORI Ishinomaki'! You're sure to have many encounters there.

A cafe unique to the manga town, directly connected to the station

Mangattan Cafe Eki

'Mangattan Cafe Eki,' directly connected to Ishinomaki Station, is a convenient cafe for waiting for trains or meeting friends. Since you can enter directly from the station concourse, it's also very useful for transfer waits.

Ishinomaki is associated with Shotaro Ishinomori, the manga artist who created hit works like Kamen Rider, and 'Mangattan Cafe Eki' also features elements of Ishinomori's works throughout. Robocon is depicted on the yellow sign outside.

The interior has a nostalgic feel, and the manga depicted in stained-glass patterns on the windows makes you feel as if you've traveled back in time. Drinking coffee in such a place would surely bring more peace to your mind.

'Mangattan Cafe Eki' is operated by 'Coffee Kobo Ishikawa,' a local Ishinomaki coffee roasting shop, and you can purchase coffee drip packs and sweets like cookies. It's perfect for souvenirs for family and friends.

Stylish cafe right in front of Ishinomaki Station, for work, reading, and lunch

cafe grain

'cafe grain' is a stylish cafe with excellent access, located right in front of Ishinomaki Station. The exterior is white-based, and sunlight streams in through the glass inside, creating a consistently bright atmosphere.

The menu includes cafe items such as coffee, tea, and sweets, as well as lunch items like curry. There are also limited-quantity lunch boxes, and many people visit right at 11 AM when the store opens, seeking these lunch boxes.

Many books are lined up in the store, making it a great place for reading. With Wi-Fi and power outlets at the wall seats, I often use it when I want to concentrate on PC work. Please find your own way to enjoy it.

A place of relaxation for local residents

Mugi

After passing through the shopping street from Ishinomaki Station and heading towards Ishinomaki Central Community Center, you'll find the coffee shop 'Mugi.' It's a coffee shop where you can hear the lively voices of children from Ishinomaki Elementary School right in front.

'Mugi' is a place of relaxation for local people, and when I visited, the owner and customers were chatting about various things across the counter. As indicated by the pop-up in the store, 'Produced by Ishinomaki City Sakuraoka High School,' it seems to be handmade by local high school girls. It must be a coffee shop loved by all generations.

The day of my visit was very cold, so I ordered a hot cocoa. Combined with the home-like atmosphere, both my mind and body warmed up. It's a perfect coffee shop for a break when going to or returning from Hiyoriyama Park.
