Ishinomaki is a region rich in food, with many attractive restaurants and izakayas (Japanese pubs) throughout the city. There are also plenty of cafes and other eateries, perfect for relaxing after a meal or getting some work done on your laptop.
This time, we'll introduce eight cafes and coffee shops located around Ishinomaki Station. Each one is unique and offers a different kind of experience. We'll be sharing plenty of photos in two parts, so we hope this will be helpful when choosing a cafe in Ishinomaki.

The first cafe I'd like to introduce is "IRORI Ishinomaki." True to its concept of "IRORI Ishinomaki, the most interesting town lobby in the world," it's a place where interesting people, things, and events from Ishinomaki come together.
IRORI Ishinomaki is a multi-purpose facility where various people enjoy themselves in various ways. Some people relax with a cup of coffee, others work on their laptops as Wi-Fi is available, and still others chat with friends or staff. I myself often use it when I need to work on my laptop.

IRORI Ishinomaki regularly hosts events, and also stocks brochures for events held in Ishinomaki, Kesennuma, Sendai, and other areas. There's also an Ishinomaki city relocation consultation booth and a co-working space, and works by local artists are displayed and sold, making it a place where you feel like "there's something to be found at IRORI." When you visit Ishinomaki, head straight to IRORI Ishinomaki! You're sure to have many encounters there.

Mangattan Cafe Eki, directly connected to Ishinomaki Station, is a convenient cafe for waiting for trains or meeting up with friends. Since you can enter from inside the station, it's also handy for those waiting for transfers.
Ishinomaki is a place associated with Shotaro Ishinomori, the manga artist who created hit works such as Kamen Rider, and the "Mangattan Cafe Eki" also shows the influence of Ishinomori's works in many places. Robocon is depicted on the yellow sign outside.

The interior evokes a sense of nostalgia, and the stained-glass-like cartoons on the windows make you feel like you've traveled back in time. Drinking coffee in such a place would surely bring a sense of peace.
This "Mangattan Cafe Eki" is a shop operated by "Coffee Workshop Ishikawa," a local coffee roastery in Ishinomaki, and you can also purchase coffee drip packs and sweets such as cookies. They make perfect souvenirs for family and friends.

Cafe Grain is a stylish cafe with excellent access, located right in front of Ishinomaki Station. The exterior is predominantly white, and sunlight streams in through the glass inside, creating a bright and cheerful atmosphere.
The menu includes cafe items such as coffee, tea, and sweets, as well as lunch items like curry. They also offer a limited number of lunch boxes, and many people come in to get them as soon as the shop opens at 11:00 AM.

The store has a large selection of books, making it a great place to read. It also has Wi-Fi and power outlets at the wall-side seats, so I often use it when I need to concentrate on working on my laptop. I encourage you all to find your own way to enjoy it!

If you walk from Ishinomaki Station through the shopping street towards Ishinomaki Central Community Center, you'll come across the coffee shop "Mugi." From this coffee shop, you can hear the cheerful voices of children from Ishinomaki Elementary School right in front of it.
"Mugi" is a place where locals relax, and when I visited, the owner and customers were chatting about all sorts of things across the counter. As indicated by the sign inside the shop that reads "Produced by Ishinomaki Municipal Sakuragaoka High School," it seems to have been handmade by local high school girls. It's a coffee shop that is loved by people of all generations.
The day of the interview was bitterly cold, so I ordered a hot cocoa. Combined with the homey atmosphere, it warmed both my heart and body. This coffee shop is perfect for a rest on the way to or from Hiyoriyama Park.

So, what did you think? I hope that even just the four cafes introduced in the first half gave you a sense of the wonderful atmosphere of Ishinomaki Cafe. For more, check out the second part of the column!
