[Event Report] We held an event where we ate 200 dumplings while socializing at a shared house @Roopt Ishinomaki Chuo-COMICHI-

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, an event was held at Roopt Ishinomaki Chuo-COMICHI-, a Roopt share house, where residents, local residents, and Roopt staff could interact.

Titled "Share House Social Gathering ~A Night of Dumplings and Conversation~," the event lived up to its name, offering a relaxed atmosphere where attendees could socialize while enjoying dumplings.

Roopt plans to hold more open events like this in the future, so if you're interested, please read this report.

Why dumplings?

Some of you might be wondering, "Why dumplings?"

Going back to May 2024.

During a BBQ held by Roopt residents and staff, a resident from Taiwan and a staff member from Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, were talking about Taiwanese dumplings and Utsunomiya dumplings, which are dumplings from their respective hometowns.

So, the idea of "Let's have a food tasting event!" got popular, and that's how it all started – we held it at Roopt Ishinomaki Chuo-COMICHI-, where the resident lives.

The motivation was quite simple.

*We were so busy struggling to get the fire going that we didn't take any photos of the BBQ.

Features of Roopt Ishinomaki Chuo-COMICHI-

Roopt Ishinomaki Chuo-COMICHI-, the venue for this event, is a share house built in 2015. It's located in the city center and has a great atmosphere, making it a popular choice for people moving into a share house for the first time.

Furthermore, the layout, with the living room immediately accessible from the entrance, and its convenient location make it easy for residents to bring friends and acquaintances over, and recently, there have been many instances of various people chatting around the dining table.

Residents increasingly cook meals for each other and watch movies together, making it one of the most pleasant share houses.

Event photos

Now, let me share some photos from the gyoza event we held.

Both the Taiwanese dumplings and the Utsunomiya dumplings were made with great care, and I'm not exaggerating when I say there were about 300 dumplings gathered there.

Approximately 200 of them were devoured by all the participants, and the remaining 100 became valuable food for the residents of Roopt Ishinomaki Chuo-COMICHI-.

Utsunomiya gyoza are the "fried gyoza" that most Japanese people imagine, while Taiwanese gyoza are basically all "boiled gyoza."

I've never eaten Taiwanese dumplings before, so this is the first time I've heard of them.

It's interesting how the preparation methods are different.

Incidentally, the Taiwanese dumplings were handmade by one of the residents, and it was apparently their first time making them.

If I may say so myself, I also prepared and served side dishes.

It's a light side dish that goes well with rich dumplings.

As we ate the dumplings that were being made one after another, we introduced ourselves, chatted, and deepened our friendships.

Some of the visitors were coming to Roopt Ishinomaki Chuo-COMICHI- for the first time, and they had the opportunity to tour the inside of the share house.

Towards the end, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, chatting and doing tarot card readings.

Fortune telling is definitely a staple at drinking parties.

Finally, we all took a commemorative photo.

With their stomachs and hearts full, everyone set off on their journey home.

Afterword

This time the theme was "Gyoza Party," but we plan to hold various other events utilizing the share house in the future!

Regardless of whether it's a share house or not, a "house" is basically only used by the people who live there, but isn't it exciting to visit someone else's home?

At Roopt's share houses, we want people to come and visit first, and we believe it will be easier for people who say, "I don't need to do a full viewing, but I'd like to take a look around."

Also, it's a great opportunity to talk to a variety of people without feeling any pressure, so if this article has piqued your interest even a little, I'd be happy if you checked out Roopt's information!
