8 Recommended Cafes and Coffee Shops in Ishinomaki for Work or Breaks [Part 2]

This column introduces cafes and coffee shops around Ishinomaki Station. In the first part, we introduced four shops, and in the second part, we will continue to introduce wonderful cafes. We hope you find your favorite shop!

Now, let's begin part two!

A traditional coffee shop where you can feel the art.

Kahikan (Coffee Kan)

Coffee-kan is a coffee shop located in a corner of Aito-Pia Street, an area with many restaurants, and is recommended for enjoying coffee after a meal.

Kahikan is located on the second floor of the building that also houses the hair salon Anarchy Monkey. The interior has a chic and calm atmosphere, with a perfect balance of natural light from the windows and plants. There is also a painting depicting the Ishinomori Manga Museum, a popular tourist spot in Ishinomaki, giving a glimpse into Ishinomaki's artistic side.

The coffee cups, featuring the shop's logo, are cute and round, and they perfectly match the shop's atmosphere. The female owner is also friendly and easy to talk to, so if you're looking to relax with a cup of coffee, be sure to visit "Coffee House."

A hidden gem of a coffee shop that has also been featured in TV commercials.

Cafe Apricot

Let me introduce you to Cafe Apricot, a cafe that perfectly fits the description of a "cafe tucked away in an alley." Located on Kotobuki-cho Street, just off the aforementioned Aito-pia Street, it's the kind of place you might easily walk right past on your first visit, but look for the coffee sign as a landmark. The retro exterior with its stone tile walls is striking, and the entrance is so unexpected that you might wonder, "Is this really it?" The sense of anticipation before stepping inside might be part of this cafe's charm.

Upon entering the shop, the owner, an elderly gentleman, greeted me, making me feel less like I was in a coffee shop and more like I was visiting my grandfather's house. The owner told me that Cafe Apricot was used in a TV commercial featuring Takuya Kimura and Beat Takeshi that aired around 2012, and he shared stories about it and even showed me the actual commercial. It's a wonderful place to enjoy coffee while reminiscing about the past.

Cafe Apricot also offers a lunch menu centered around pasta, making it a great option for lunch. You'll be amazed by the sheer variety of dishes available, thinking, "The owner's culinary repertoire is incredible!"

A cozy cafe where the sound of trains is soothing.

CAFE SUGAWARA

The six shops I've introduced so far are all located on the south side of Ishinomaki Station, but from here on I'll introduce two shops located on the north side of the station.

CAFE SUGAWARA is a cozy cafe located about a 10-minute walk northeast of Ishinomaki Station, along the JR Ishinomaki Line tracks. Both the exterior and interior have a warm, wood-grained atmosphere, and plants and accessories adorn the space. The rattling sound of the trains, on the other hand, actually makes the atmosphere even more pleasant.

At "CAFE SUGAWARA," you'll find not only coffee and sweets, but also food items like curry and toast. It's perfect for a relaxing coffee break or a hearty meal; it seems like a great place for a variety of occasions. Take a short stroll around the town from the area near Ishinomaki Station and be sure to stop by.

Take a moment to relax in a stylish space.

SMILE MARKET

The last place I'll introduce in this column is the stylish cafe "SMILE MARKET," located in a residential area. Since they also serve dinner, it's a great cafe to visit if you're looking for a place to enjoy a drink.

As you open the door, excited by the stylish exterior, you'll find that the interior is also sophisticatedly designed, making the time you spend sitting there a delightful experience. The colors of the menu and tables are also perfectly matched.

This time, I ordered tea. The cup was stylish, making it a truly "Instagrammable" cafe. If you love taking photos or using Instagram, I'm sure you'll love this cafe after just one visit.

The lunch plate was well-balanced and filling, leaving me feeling completely satisfied when I left the restaurant. It would be interesting to visit during lunch, café hours, and dinner hours.
