This time, we will introduce cherry blossom viewing spots in Shiogama City, Matsushima Town, Higashi-Matsushima City, and Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, focusing on those accessible by car! The cherry blossoms at Shiogama Shrine, boasting over 1000 years of history, are one of Miyagi Prefecture's famous cherry blossom spots. Many varieties of cherry blossoms bloom across the spacious grounds, allowing visitors to enjoy various expressions of the cherry blossoms, combined with the unique scenery of the shrine's gardens and approach. If the weather is good, you can also get a panoramic view of Shiogama Bay and the islands of Matsushima beyond, and it's also an atmospheric place on rainy days.

Saigyo Modoshi no Matsu Park in Matsushima Town is named after a legend: "During his travels, Saigyo Hoshi, a poet from the Kamakura period, encountered a boy under a large pine tree and, after losing a Zen debate, turned back." The view of Matsushima, one of Japan's three most scenic spots, seen through the cherry blossoms, is simply breathtaking. The café "le Roman" located within this park offers views of Matsushima through its glass windows, making it a recommended spot even outside of cherry blossom season.

Takiyama Park, located on a hill, has an observation deck offering a panoramic view of the city, where you can enjoy watching the Blue Impulse flight training. With approximately 500 cherry trees blooming in spring, this park is a place of relaxation for citizens regardless of the season. As there are many stairs and slopes, it is also recommended for a light workout.

Hiyoriyama Park in Ishinomaki City, from which you can overlook the progress of reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake, also becomes a popular cherry blossom viewing spot in the prefecture during spring. Cherry blossoms bloom from the hilltop down to the foot of the mountain, making it a rare place where you can look down on the cherry blossoms. Since the roads can get very crowded during cherry blossom season, we recommend using public transportation if possible.

Prefectural Natural Park Asahiyama in Ishinomaki City is characterized by its torii gate and cherry blossom scenery. You can enjoy the cherry blossom view both at the entrance of the shrine and at the summit of the mountain. On clear days, you can get a panoramic view of Ishinomaki, making it perfect for hiking.
