In Miyagi Prefecture, cherry blossoms typically reach full bloom around mid-April each year, and the season is bustling with cherry blossom viewers. There are many recommended cherry blossom viewing spots around the four Roopt share house properties in the prefecture (as of April 2023). This time, we will introduce cherry blossom viewing spots in Shiogama City, Matsushima Town, Higashi-Matsushima City, and Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, focusing on those accessible by car! Please use this as a reference when planning your cherry blossom viewing.

The cherry blossoms at Shiogama Shrine, boasting over 1000 years of history, are one of Miyagi Prefecture's famous cherry blossom spots. Many varieties of cherry trees bloom throughout the spacious grounds, allowing visitors to enjoy various expressions of the cherry blossoms, complemented by the unique scenery of the shrine's gardens and approach. If the weather is good, you can also enjoy a panoramic view of Shiogama Bay and the islands of Matsushima beyond, and it's a atmospheric place even on rainy days.

Saigyo Modoshi no Matsu Park in Matsushima Town is named after a legend: "The Kamakura period poet-monk Saigyo, while on a pilgrimage, encountered a boy under a large pine tree and engaged in a Zen debate, losing and thus turning back." The view of Matsushima, one of Japan's three most scenic views, seen through the cherry blossoms, is simply breathtaking. The cafe "le Roman" located within this park offers views of Matsushima through its glass windows, making it a recommended spot even outside of cherry blossom season.

Takiyama Park, located on a hill, has an observation deck offering a panoramic view of the city, where you can also enjoy watching Blue Impulse flight training. In spring, approximately 500 cherry trees bloom, making it a recreational spot for citizens regardless of the season. As there are many stairs and slopes, it's also recommended for a light workout.

Hiyoriyama Park in Ishinomaki City, from which you can overlook the progress of reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake, also becomes a popular cherry blossom viewing spot in the prefecture during spring. Cherry blossoms bloom from the hilltop down to the foot of the mountain, making it a rare place where you can look down on the blossoms. The park gets very crowded with cars during cherry blossom season, so we recommend using public transportation if possible.
