Dear readers, what comes to mind when you hear the term "share house"? That's right, board games. Board games, which allow everyone to communicate and have fun together, are a perfect match for a share house.
On June 22, 2022, a board game tournament was held at Roopt Higashimatsushima Shintomei, a spacious 9LDK house, bringing together board game enthusiasts from all over the country. Although it was held in the evening, everyone was so engrossed in playing board games that they almost forgot to eat, making it a hugely successful event!
There are rumors that this board game tournament will be held regularly, so if you're interested, please read on to find out more.

We invited Takuro Abe, who works as an immigration coordinator at the general incorporated association ISHINOMAKI 2.0 and also serves as the vice-representative of the Ishinomaki Theater Arts Association, to be our "board game master" for this event. As the name suggests, he brought a large number of games to the board game tournament, and we all enjoyed playing various games together.
Furthermore, the Ishinomaki Arts and Culture Association spearheaded the development of "Theater Kinema," a multi-purpose entertainment facility utilizing vacant houses, which opened on August 5, 2022. This is also definitely worth checking out!

(Some of the board games Mr. Abe brought. Apparently, this is just the tip of the iceberg.)
Board game enthusiasts gathered from Ishinomaki, Higashimatsushima, and the surrounding areas, resulting in the highest turnout ever for this board game event. You might be wondering, "Is it really okay for so many people to gather in a shared house?" But there's absolutely no need to worry.
Because it's a 9LDK (9 bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen).
We split into two rooms and enjoyed playing board games with just the right number of people in each room.
Guest Abe and Hiratsuka from Makigumi's public relations department, who said, "We've been practicing for this day," guided us through playing several board games.
The first game we all played together was "Cat & Chocolate." The game involves each player creating a story to overcome a common crisis (e.g., being attacked by a swarm of bees) using their cards. Other players then evaluate the story by indicating "Good or Not Good" with their fingers. The fun lies in the fact that everyone comes up with completely different stories.
(The moment of judgment: "Good or Not Good." Getting the latter is quite disheartening.)
After that, they played "Magic Labyrinth," where they collected magical symbols by navigating an "invisible maze" they had created themselves, and "Catch the Moon," where they stacked ladders in a balanced way to create an artistic masterpiece together. Many of them were playing these board games for the first time, and they seemed to be enjoying them with a fresh perspective.
In between activities, we all ate meals together and enjoyed relaxed conversations. Being able to decide when to play games and eat meals at our own pace is probably one of the unique charms of living in a shared house.
This concludes our board game tournament. Some of you may be surprised by the group photo, but this many people participated. But don't worry.
Because it's a 9LDK (9 bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen).
This time, we held a board game tournament using Roopt's shared house. We held the event hoping that it would foster communication among residents, local event participants, and the organizers through board games, so I'm glad to see everyone having fun. The fact that we were able to have a flat, equal exchange, setting aside things like who the residents are, what kind of work they do, or what their job titles are, might be a testament to the power of board games.
Following the success of this event, we are currently planning game tournaments utilizing other Roopt share houses. If this article has piqued your interest, please join us next time!
At Roopt, we welcome not only share house residents but also those who would like to host events. We welcome one-off events, as well as a "share living" plan where you can freely use Roopt's living room for a fixed monthly fee.
