Many people probably watch cat videos on YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms and think, "I want to own a cat someday." Even for those who already own a cat, finding a home where both you and your cat can live comfortably isn't easy. Furthermore, some people might even want to live in a shared house with their cat.
In response to such requests, Roopt has installed a cat walkway in one of the rooms at Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture! Furthermore, the cat walkway was made through a DIY project in collaboration with local cat lovers! In this article, please take a look at the completed cat walkway, along with a complete account of the DIY workshop held in January 2023.

Based in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, Ms. Yamauchi works as an upcycled furniture maker. With the concept of "making use of what you have and enjoying life," she creates furniture by combining discarded materials and stylishly painting unused furniture to make it usable again. Recently, she has started offering workshops for individuals on furniture painting and DIY, and is someone who can advise you on anything related to furniture.

Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka is a share house located very close to Hiyoriyama Park, which offers a panoramic view of Ishinomaki City. It is operated by renovating a two-story former company dormitory. It consists of four units: Room 101 (3DK), Room 102 (2DK), Room 201 (3DK), and Room 202 (2DK). One private room within each unit can be used as a private room, and it is also possible to rent an entire unit by yourself.
This share house offers a high degree of freedom, allowing you to enjoy a lifestyle similar to that of a rental apartment, even though it's a shared house.

This time, we invited Mr. Yamauchi as the instructor for a DIY workshop where participants built a cat walkway and installed it in the living room of Room 101 at Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka. Six cat lovers from Ishinomaki City and the surrounding areas participated.
Here is the image that Ms. Yamauchi created for this event. You can easily imagine the cats happily using it, right? Ms. Yamauchi had created the parts in advance, and the workshop proceeded in a way that the participants simply had to combine and install them to complete the product, so it was completed in just four hours, from 13:00 to 17:00.
Some of the participants enjoy DIY projects at home, and they were very interested in the tools and techniques that Ms. Yamauchi used, asking questions throughout the workshop. Furthermore, participants collaborated with each other based on Ms. Yamauchi's lecture, and it seems that their shared love of cats and DIY fostered connections among them. And here is the completed catwalk! A catwalk where cats can enjoy themselves as they please has been created at Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka.
One participant immediately brought their cat from home, and although the cat seemed a little hesitant at first, it happily played on the brand-new cat walkway. It was an irresistible sight for cat lovers, and needless to say, a photo session began.
Roopt's first-ever DIY catwalk workshop concluded with great success. Thank you so much to all the participants and to our instructor, Mr. Yamauchi!
Following this workshop, Room 101 at Roopt Ishinomaki Hiyorigaoka has been transformed into a "cat-friendly share house."
