[Higashimatsushima] I visited "Nobirugaoka Sustainable Commons," a new community hub in Miyagi Prefecture.

In Higashimatsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture, a new facility called "Nobirugaoka Sustainable Commons" opened in the fall of 2022, within walking distance of Roopt's share house (Roopt Okumatsushima).

The Nobiru area is popular with families with young children, and with many new shops and commercial facilities, I have a feeling that the opening of "Nobirugaoka Sustainable Commons" will make it an even more livable area.

Although I knew the name, I couldn't imagine what kind of facility it was, so I decided to visit it, following the adage, "Seeing is believing."

This article describes the location and shops of Nobirugaoka Sustainable Commons, so please take a look if you're interested.

If you want to live a life that feels like part of a community, Roopt is the place for you.

First, what kind of facility is Nobirugaoka Sustainable Commons?

The following introductory text is posted on the official website.

We will create a sustainable commons (a vibrant, community-rich neighborhood that will never fade) on a hill in Nobiru where everyone can enjoy a relaxed and vibrant lifestyle. It will include spacious maisonette-style rental apartments for families, apartments for singles, and custom-designed detached houses (10 units) that will allow everyone to realize their ideal home. In the center of the neighborhood, there will be shops such as a cafe, gelato shop, microbrewery, and retail stores to enrich daily life and welcome residents. Furthermore, a pedestrian walkway (community road) will run through the north-south center, and landscaping, hedges, streetlights, and parking will be arranged to create a unified and environmentally rich space throughout the neighborhood, along with aesthetically pleasing buildings. We believe that this kind of community development will allow residents, from singles to families and elderly households, to experience a relaxed and vibrant lifestyle and enjoy living in this community-rich area for many years to come. By concentrating rental apartments, custom-built houses, restaurants, and other shops in a specific area, it creates an atmosphere like being in a small town, and because of the close proximity, it becomes a place where people can help each other and enjoy spending time together.

I also walked around the area and felt, in a good way, that "this place is self-contained and complete."

In Japan, where the population decline is accelerating, we may see an increase in living spaces that are integrated with local communities like this.

A detailed introduction to Nobirugaoka Sustainable Commons

Now, let me introduce you to the Nobirugaoka Sustainable Commons.

It is divided into three areas, and I will introduce each of them.

Apartment area

Apartment areas are primarily for people who want to live in rental properties.

As expected of a newly built property, it offers comfortable living, and the maisonette-style layout is similar to a detached house, so you won't be as bothered by your neighbors' lives compared to a typical apartment or condominium.

Additionally, the center house reportedly has desk spaces available for residents to use, catering to those who need a quiet environment for teleworking or other purposes.

Living in a detached house while also being able to interact with neighbors is a great advantage for single people or those who have just moved.

107kitchen Sanone (Deli Cafe)

"107kitchen Sanone" operates as a deli cafe, and as the name suggests, it's a place where you can enjoy the cafe and purchase prepared foods!

We prepare healthy side dishes in our kitchen, which you can take home piping hot, or eat in the store!

Besides side dishes, they also offer set meals and curry, so it seems like a good place to come if you're hungry.

H&H Labo (Gelato shop)

At the gelato specialty shop "H&H Labo," you can enjoy a wide variety of gelato, from classic flavors to those using local ingredients!

You can choose up to two flavors, and it's fun to think about which combination to put together (I chose Higashimatsushima kinako and raw chocolate coffee).

The store's design is unique, creating a playful and inviting atmosphere!

Beer Base Campanella (Craft Beer)

"Beer Base Campanella" is a shop that offers a marriage of local food and alcoholic beverages, starting with beer made with "Hope Barley" from Higashimatsushima City.

Having a brewery on-site and being able to drink freshly brewed beer is a real treat for beer lovers.

I couldn't do this on this particular day because I was driving, but since it's close to Tomei Station, it's reassuring to know that you can have a drink at "Beer Base Campanella" and then take the train home.

Opening hours: 5 PM to 10 PM (12 PM to 10 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays) Closed: Mondays and Tuesdays

Project Area

In the area where we are currently selling land with building restrictions, we aim to create a sustainable town where communities are formed even though it consists of single-family homes.
